In light of the recent statements by President Donald J. Trump, in regards to the Parkland, Florida shooting and the reports of Broward County deputies not entering Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, he stated that he would have “ran in there even if I didn’t have a gun”, the media and vocal critics of Trump have blasted the Commander-in-Chief and questioned his bravery and his fortitude in what may be considered dangerous or even life threatening situations.
In 1991, Daily News staff writer James Rosen reported on a mugging that had taken place in Manhattan, New York where billionaire and current President of the United States Donald J. Trump had intervened to stop the attack and attend to the victim.
The incident took place near 45th Street and 9th Avenue near the Lincoln Tunnel entrance on the West Side of Manhattan. Trump and his then wife, Marla Maples, were headed to a Paula Abdul concert in the Meadowlands at East Rutherford, New Jersey when someone riding with Trump in his stretch limo had pointed out the brutal mugging taking place right outside the limousine window. Trump immediately directed his driver to stop the vehicle and, to the chagrin of Marla Maples, proceeded to intervene in the mugging taking place. Multiple witnesses confirmed that Trump had yelled at the thug with the baseball bat and ordered him to put the weapon down. The mugger had dropped then ran away. Trump stayed with the victim until a bystander who may have been a doctor started to treat him. Only once it was clear the victim was cared for, is when the President proceeded to leave the the area.
At the time of the incident, Trump was not officially forthcoming about the incident, even stating to the reporter, “I’m not looking to play this thing up. I’m surprised you found out about it.”
Not only does this story help to alleviate the concerns of the President’s nay-sayers, it also helps to illustrate just how humble President Donald J. Trump is when he is the one who deserves the credit for a feat in which he single-handedly may have saved an a regular American’s life.
